I heard the footfalls. I was rummaging through my dad’s desk when I heard them. I started panicking.
“Dad will kill me if he sees me in his office!”
I hastily put the documents back in the old wooden desk as I hear him coming down the hallway. I need to get out of here, I thought to myself. I dashed to the door. With sweaty palms, I grab the door handle and give it a desperate turn. Locked. I was launched into full fledged panic. I could hear the footstep of my father approaching, each step a little louder than the last.
“Nowhere to go, I gotta hide!”
I quickly surveyed the office for a hiding place. I could hear that he was merely six paces away from the door. My eyes quickly fall upon the air vent. The air vent! I dive across the room to the vent. I desperately rip off the cover. I warm myself in as I hear the key turn in the lock. I haphazardly put the lid on as I see the knob turning. As I finally get the cover to get on, my dad walked into the office. I slowly let the pent up air in my chest out as he briskly walked over to his desk. He sat down and began to type on his desk. He directed a video call to the window screen behind him.
“Hello Prime Chancellor” a slow, slick voice uttered.
I immediately knew who that voice belonged to. The shock on my face could not be described in words.
